British Heart Month: Raising Awareness on Heart Health

03.02.2026

Every February, British Heart Month raises awareness on the importance of heart health, why it matters and the steps we can take to prevent cardiovascular disease. It’s a chance to reflect on how lifestyle choices, and support can make a real difference in protecting one of our most vital organs. Around 7.6 million people in the UK are living with heart and circulatory diseases. Behind these figures are real people like you; colleagues working through demanding shifts, families navigating long-term heart conditions, and communities affected everyday by heart disease.

This month isn’t just about statistics or facts, it’s about real stories from people affected by heart conditions. Listening to their experiences can inspire us to take our own heart health seriously, and encourage healthier habits. Even making small consistent changes such as taking the time to move during the day when you have a spare few minutes, reducing your salt intake or finding ways to improve your sleep; all can have a lasting impact. Did you know by learning essential skills such as CPR can also be lifesaving for those around you, as early intervention significantly increases survival rates following a cardiac arrest.

Gezz, our Chief Operating Officer, has seen this impact first-hand through his clinical experience:

“As a clinician, I’ve seen first-hand how important it is to look after your heart. Patients would often say things like, ‘I wish I’d done something sooner about my health.’ I’ve also been part of teams delivering CPR and have seen the life-saving impact it can have.”

For many reasons, British Heart Month is an important reminder for us all. It’s not just about awareness, but about taking small steps to improve our heart health.

At HCRG Staffing, we know that wellbeing isn’t just a personal responsibility, it’s something supported at an organisational level too. Promoting heart health in the workplace can make a real difference. Small actions like having conversations about wellbeing, checking in with colleagues, and having a culture where employees feel supported all contribute to having happier and healthier workforce.

Most importantly, British Heart Month reminds us that heart health shouldn’t be limited to a single month. Everyday choices, and ongoing awareness can help make looking after our hearts a normal part of daily life.
