Movember: How to raise awareness this month

By Becca

01.11.2025

Every November, people raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention, by growing moustaches.

As a health and social care recruitment agency, we work closely with nurses, doctors, and healthcare professionals who are on the frontlines of caring for patients. Movember holds particular significance for us because it highlights the importance of supporting men’s health and recognising the dedication of the professionals who help patients every day.

Why awareness matters

Men’s health issues are often overlooked, and early detection, open conversations, and preventative care can make a huge difference. Prostate and testicular cancers, for example, can be successfully treated if identified early. Likewise, mental health support and suicide prevention are critical to improving outcomes and saving lives.

How healthcare professionals can get involved

While some workplaces encourage people to “grow a moustache” for Movember, we understand that nurses, doctors, and healthcare staff can’t always participate in this way on shift. That doesn’t mean they can’t contribute meaningfully to the cause.

Here are some ways healthcare workers can get involved:

  • Start conversations: Talk to patients, colleagues, and loved ones about men’s health screenings, mental wellbeing, and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Support campaigns outside of work: Share informative posts, resources, or fundraising events on social media.
  • Fundraise or donate: Contribute to charities supporting men’s health research and patient services.
  • Show solidarity in subtle ways: If uniform policies allow, consider wearing a pin, wristband, or badge to raise awareness.

Making an impact all year round

Movember is about more than growing a moustache; it’s about fostering open conversations, encouraging proactive health care, and supporting men through difficult times. At HCRG Staffing, we are proud to work with healthcare professionals who make a real difference in men’s lives, not just during Movember, but throughout the year.
