Role: Child Protection Social Worker
Salary: £39 – £40 per hour
Location: Sandwell Children’s Trust
Job Type: Temporary
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Child Protection Social Worker to join a Child Protection & Court Team, supporting children and families through complex safeguarding situations.
You will work as part of a locality-based team, alongside Assessment & Intervention Social Workers, to deliver high-quality assessments, evidence-based interventions, and effective permanency planning. You will play a key role in safeguarding children, managing complex cases, and ensuring children’s needs are identified and supported through timely and effective action.
This role requires someone who can work confidently within a court environment, produce high-quality assessments and reports, and make informed decisions that support positive outcomes for children and families.
Key responsibilities include:
- Work collaboratively as part of the Child Protection & Court Teams to safeguard children and promote positive outcomes
- Manage a caseload of complex child protection cases, ensuring interventions are timely and effective
- Complete detailed assessments, care plans, and court reports, providing evidence-based recommendations
- Prepare court statements and represent the Trust by providing evidence in court when required
- Gather, analyse and evaluate information to make informed decisions about children’s needs and risks
- Work closely with families, partner agencies, and professionals to support positive change
- Ensure all work is completed in line with Trust and court timescales
- Contribute to pre-proceedings, care proceedings, and permanency planning processes
Who We Are Looking For:
Experience:
- Completed ASYE programme
- Previous experience working within a children and families setting
- Experience managing complex safeguarding cases and child protection processes
- Experience preparing assessments, reports, and court documentation
Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of child development and safeguarding principles
- Knowledge of minimum standards and statutory frameworks
- Ability to promote positive change within family environments
Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess information and make evidence-based decisions
- Excellent case management and organisational skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Resilience and empathy when supporting children and families through challenging circumstances
- Strong report writing skills with attention to detail
