Role: Family Court Advisor – Qualified Children’s Social Worker

About the Role:
The Family Court Adviser role provides advanced social work support to children, families, and courts within family proceedings, ensuring the child’s welfare and safeguarding remain central to all decision-making. The role involves assessing risk, analysing complex cases, advising courts on child protection and welfare concerns, and working directly with children and families to achieve positive outcomes. Applicants must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and have at least three years, post-qualifying experience working with children and families. Strong assessment, communication, negotiation, case management, and IT skills are essential, alongside the ability to work effectively under pressure and manage sensitive, high-conflict situations professionally
The office based is Stevenage but you will be required to travel to locations in either Hertfordshire or Bedfordshire
WAFH (Work After First Hearing);
Involves work completed after the first hearing, including detailed assessments, direct work with children and families, report writing, and ongoing recommendations to support the court in achieving the best outcomes for the child.
Public Law;
Cases where the Local Authority has intervened due to safeguarding concerns or risk of significant harm to a child. FCA’s act as Children’s Guardians, representing the child’s wishes and best interests throughout care proceedings.
Private Law;
Cases involving disputes between parents or carers regarding child arrangements, such as contact or residence. FCA’s assess welfare concerns, provide safeguarding advice and support families to remain focused on the child’s needs.
Key responsibilities include:
* Conduct detailed assessments and risk evaluations for service users.
* Develop, implement, and review tailored support plans.
* Ensure the protection of vulnerable children and adults.
* Support clients to access healthcare, housing, benefits, and community resources.
* Partner with healthcare professionals, local authorities, and voluntary organisations.
* Maintain accurate and timely case notes in compliance with professional standards.
