Salary: £33.30 per hour
Location: Sandwell Children’s Trust
Job Type: Temporary / Contract
Shifts: 30-37 hours per week (Full-time, 4 days per week, or flexible arrangements such as 37 hours across 4 days or 10 days across 9)

About the Role:

Sandwell Children’s Trust is looking for exceptional Parent Assess Practitioners. We are seeking social work qualified practitioners with at least 4 years post-qualifying experience. Ideal candidates will be trained in the Parent Assess model and have recent experience of undertaking parenting assessments with parents who have cognitive needs, learning needs, and/or a learning disability.

We are currently looking to recruit 1 additional practitioner who will carry out the work on either a full-time or 4-day-per-week basis. We are also happy to consider flexible working patterns, including 37 hours across 4 days or condensed hours across 9 days.

The role involves working alongside social work teams within Child Protection and Court Services. This is a non-case holding role, focused on delivering high-quality parenting assessments and expert court reporting.

You will be required to confidently provide evidence in court and produce high-quality, court-ready reports. There will also be opportunities to undertake additional specialist assessments, including risk assessments, together or apart assessments, and child impact reports.

The role sits under the oversight of a Service Manager who will manage allocations and quality-assure all assessments.

Duties include:

  • Assessing families using the Parent Assess model and the Infant Care-Index video feedback tool
  • Acting as an advisor to support the implementation of the Parent Assess model within Sandwell Children’s Trust
  • Acting as an Expert Witness to provide evidence-based, child-centred recommendations
  • Preparing clear, analytical, and court-ready reports
  • Attending legal and care planning meetings as required

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Comprehensive Assessment: Conduct detailed parenting and risk assessments
  • Care Planning Contribution: Provide informed recommendations to support care planning decisions
  • Safeguarding: Promote the safety and wellbeing of children at all times
  • Advocacy: Ensure assessments are evidence-based and reflect the child’s best interests
  • Collaborative Working: Work closely with social work teams, legal professionals, and multi-agency partners
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate, high-quality reports suitable for court proceedings

Who We Are Looking For:

  • Education: Degree in Social Work (or equivalent)
  • Experience: Minimum 4 years post-qualifying experience, with strong background in parenting assessments
  • Specialist Knowledge: Experience using the Parent Assess model (preferred)
  • Court Skills: Confident in giving evidence and preparing court-ready reports
